ERFA is happy to announce Captrain Italia as the newest member of ERFA. Founded in 1998, Captrain Italia is the second largest operator in the Italian rail freight market with 10% of total market share. With a fleet of 70 locomotives, Captrain Italia is in a strong position to further grow its market share. Captrain Italia offers services throughout Italy and at strategic border crossings.

ERFA is the European association representing the interests of private operators and new-market entrants in the rail freight market.
ERFA was founded in 2002 to work towards the liberalization of the European rail freight market. ERFA is based in Brussels and has 30 members active throughout the European Union and beyond.
ERFA works towards ensuring the completion of a single European railway market, secure, fair and non-discriminatory market access for all rail freight companies and support for the growth of rail freight as an attractive means of freight transportation.
About Captrain Italia
In 2005 Captrain Italia obtained the safety certificate and the license to operate as a railway company. In 15 years, Captrain Italia has grown and become the second national operator in freight transport in Italy and the largest newcomer in the Italian market.
During 2019 thanks to almost 500 colleagues, including train drivers and staff – we produced around 8,300 trains, for a total transport of almost 5 billion tons / km.
