Dr Martin Henke has been representing the interests of the German Association of Transport Companies (VDV) on the Board of the European Rail Freight Association (ERFA) since June 2003. On 16th April 2007 he was appointed Vice-President of the association, a position to which he was reappointed in 2009. He has also been Managing Director of the Railway Transport Division at VDV in Cologne since 1 July 2000. Among the duties involved in this post are representing the railway sector in dealings with the public, the body politic, the authorities and other economic sectors. From 1993 to 2000 he worked at the German Federal Ministry of Transport as a spokesperson on fundamental transport policy issues and regulatory policy, personal spokesperson for two parliamentary secretaries of state and Deputy Head of the Railway Policy Division. After gaining a doctorate in law in 1990, he headed the legal department at the Water and Navigation Administration until 1993. From 1985 to 1989 he was an academic assistant at the University of Bonn. He studied law at the University of Bonn from 1979 to 1985. Dr Martin Henke was born on 19 November 1959 in Münster (Westphalia) and grew up in Iserlohn.
