WLC joins ERFA

The ERFA Board of Directors is pleased to welcome the latest member of ERFA, WLC (Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo), as of the beginning of 2025. Based in Vienna, WLC is an internationally active rail freight service operator that organises transportation throughout Europe.

WLC was founded in 2007, though its roots trace back to the late 19th century. Over the years, it has become an important player in the Central European market. Headquartered in Vienna, WLC also has subsidiaries in Germany and the Czech Republic. WLC’s far-reaching international network enables it to offer tailor-made logistic services spanning from the North Sea to the Black Sea and from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. True to WLC’s motto, “Excellence in Transport”, WLC operates across Europe’s rail networks, delivering outstanding service quality to its clients. WLC is a subsidiary of Wiener Lokalbahnen GmbH and thus a company of Wiener Stadtwerke Group.

Approximately 75% of WLC’s core business comprises combined freight transport while the remaining 25% consist of wagonload freight services. These services cover the transportation of a variety of products including chemicals, mineral oil products, wood, cereals, coal and more.

ERFA Secretary General, Conor Feighan, stated: “WLC are an increasingly important player in the central European market and will provide valuable input to the work of ERFA. We believe WLC are a good fit for the organization and look forward to working together to improve conditions for European rail freight.”

WLC General Manager, Judith Fiala, added: “We are very happy to be part of the ERFA network and to collaborate within this network to strengthen European rail freight transport. Cooperation in our industry is crucial for the entire sector, especially during the challenging times we are all facing in rail business.”
